papa

Hosteria-Papagayo  Papagayo is a beautiful hosteria, one hour south of Quito by bus, close to the town of Machachi. It offers superb views, access to eight different volcanoes, daily farm activities, animals, fiestas, free internet, BBQs, HOT showers, and a fantastic home-cooked menu prepared by a professionally-trained International chef.  We operate our tours from this base, as it provides not only a prefect atmosphere in which to relax, but also offers an ideal place to acclimatize, at 3,200 meters.   The rooms are all colorful and comfortable, with either a private or a shared bathroom. Alternatively, if you love the outdoors, you can pitch a tent in our camping area.

cocoa-house-3

Hosteria Cocoa Located in a Cloud Forest, our new hosteria, Cocoa, is 2.5 hours from Quito and just minutes from the village of Puerto Quito.  It is the perfect location for activities in the amazing cloud forest of Ecuador.Combined with the chocolate process and  our 42 different varieties of exotical organic fruits.Set in a beautiful location - right next to a superb river for swimming or tubbing  - the lodge itself is entirely wooden, allowing it to blend in harmonically with its surroundings.  The wonderful tropical climate, combined with the laid-back atmosphere of the lodge, allow you to completely relax and enjoy the fantastic Ecuadorian cloud forest.   From here, one can access many trails and walks within the forest and opportunities to trek to some outstanding waterfalls or enjoy the large amount of birds and butterflies . There is also a farmer guides you around the grounds, and you can eat as much fresh fruit as you can handle! Prices include accommodation in the hosteria, meals, and transport to and from Quito, as well as whichever activities you wish to take part in, thus allowing you to make your very own cloud forest experience!

Gulliver:
“Well-regarded operator offering trekking, climbing, mountain-biking and horseback-riding trips in the Andes.  Excellent prices, daily departures.  Does Cotopaxi, Ilinizas, Quilotoa and more.  Most daytrips cost $30 to $45 per person.  Five- to seven-day Cotopaxi trips with acclimatization programs are based out of its Hostería PapaGayo (p148) and cost $360 to $450 and $500 respectively.”

Hosteria PapaGayo:
“This stunningly converted, 150-year-old farmhouse is the perfect base for acclimatizing, climbing and trekking in and around the Ilinizas, Cotopaxi and nearby Corazón.  Both dorm beds and private rooms are available, making it an excellent budget option for cash-strapped climbers.  Rooms are straightforward but colorful, some have private bathrooms, and some even have fireplaces.  It boasts an excellent restaurant, a bar and a sort of ‘disco barn’ (haa-aay!) for weekly parties.  There are lots of animals around (outside), and hiking and climbing information (inside).  Tours, guides and horseback riding can be arranged.  It’s 500m west of the Panamericana and about 2km north of the El Chaupi turn-off (or 1km south of the Machachi toll booth).  Bus drivers know the spot.”
